Venting

Please bare with me on this. I know I have an interesting job that is different from most. It is not a 9 to 5 job. It is not a great at these pictures below make it out to be either. Yesterday was Hell Day for me. I discharge 3 patients received 2 and during that time I am supposed to make everyone else HAPPY. I have to say people almost killed me. Did I complain about it. No lunch, and everything else? Nope Nurses are being scorned for being late with meds, while they are holding their bladder because they don't have time to use the restroom, starving because they missed lunch, being peed on, puked on, pooped on, bled on, and are missing their family while taking care of You, Your Loved Ones, IE Father, Mother, Sister, Brother, Partners, Husband, Wife. In the minute it took you to read this, nurses all over the world are saving lives.

Thank you for your understand and letting me vent at this time.

I hear that, and you are so right! People are just thankless.

They look at you as if to say, "That's all? That's all you can do? But you don't understand--this is ME! I'm here, and this is your job, to take care of ME; I don't care about all the others…"

I put up with people all day long--for years. I'm at the point that I can't stand PEOPLE!

For what ever it's worth, Thank you! I know what you do is absolutely draining!

I agree with you. Had a friend who worked in Cardiac and a pt of her's was a worker at General Motors who was complaining how much nurses makes (this was 1995) after a while she turned to him and said "I have your heart in my duty and others" he sort of shut up after that. As a nurse worked long hours, short staffed, harassed by Mgt, threatened with violence by pt's & family (facility laughed it off)Been subject to discrimination being a male nurse, tired feet & legs. Now current job Mgt wants us to do more with less and get more work done. Congrats in keeping it real. Many times I think I shouldn't have become a nurse, but I think of people Ive helped, comforted and family comforted thru their grief it makes it better.

Thanksl

I have always made it a point to let the nursing staff know how much they are appreciated. Hell I even baked cookies a head of time for the nurses when I had my second child. Thank you for all that you do Ray, it's a hard job that not just anyone can do. I hope your day is better today.

Hugs & thanks

p.s. can I have #1 please & thank you ;)

Hang in there Ray, I've always had nothing but complete respect for the nursing career, takes special people to do that thankless job!! HUG!

I do so know what you mean. In the past ten years, I've had to bring my mother to the emergency 5 or 6 times and I've always been amazed at how much pressure and stress there is on nurses who by the way are doing ALL the work. Doctors, although very useful, would never be able to heal anyone if it weren't for the dedication of nurses.

I hope that this week, you get a patient who will tell you how much he/she appreciates all you did to him/her!

I also hope you can feel that big polar bear hug I'm sending you right now! ;)

Having worked in hospitals myself with patients I know what you mean Ray. Hang in there Buddy!

Have been in the hospital four times and taken others to emergency several times. Always had great treatment from nurses and I know that most people (and provincial government) take them for granted. Hang in there please and continue to do all that you are mostly unappreciated for.

Yes, people are unappreciative....in my experience its mainly the ones who dont have jobs who think you have all fucking day to spend exclusively on them. Its the 'I pay my taxes' ungrateful cunts that get to me. Everyones just trying to do their best!

Picture #3 actually happened to me. When I was in the Army I had to be shaved for surgery. The male corpsman who was shaving me had me laying naked on the bed with my head turned to the side and my eyes closed. He shaved my chest and belly, but when he started shaving my pubes he had to move my dick from side to side, and I quickly grew a bulletproof throbbing erection. I was so embarrassed I opened my eyes and apologized to the corpsman. He said not to worry, it happened to a lot of guys, and he continued to shave me. This time though, he grabbed my dick like a stick shift, and rubbed his thumb against my frenum as he continued to shave. It took all my concentration not to jizz all over his razor. Even though I wasn't aware of being gay at the time, my body sure was.

My mom is in rehab at a local nursing home. The details and paperwork for one little old lady blows my mind and I cant imagine what it must be like for the RNs and LNAs who have to take care a dozen patients at a time. I am exhausted and strung out just taking care of one. My appreciation and awe at the volume of work these dedicated people have to do every day has soared. BTW, the charge nurse is a hot, yummy young guy to whom I'd love to show my special appreciation by getting down on my knees.. :>)~

You go ayoha! Too bad you couldn't go all the way with the guy. Who knows? Maybe he would have played along with you!

The closest I ever came to this situation was at a dermatologist's office. Laying on the table in the examining room, the doctor told me that I looked handsome laying there. If he was doable, I would have pursued it further. But he was a dopey dork type and the whole environment made me a bit nervous, so I just let it go. Nothing happened. Just goes to prove--you never know!

Ray, it's for people like you the elderly and the sick are able to keep some of their dignity. Sadly - in the US as well as over here - care jobs are not only underpaid, there are also far too few of you around to look after the ever increasing number of sick, elderly, and disabled people in need of care!

people to into the hospital thinking they have a private staff to wait on them! they fools are looking for their MOMMY to take care of them, so they don't understand the real world can afford to hire a MOMMY for each of us in the hospital. WHEN the fuck this Americans become so weak, get back to the Individualism that created this Nation! Opps I went on a rant! Keep up the good work Ray, in the long run people will appreciate you work!

Ray, through the years my parents have had numerous long stays in hospital for various things. I've always been amazed at nurses' knowledge, dedication under trying circumstances and caring natures. "Supermen and women" the lot of them /you! Remember, you can't look after others if you don't look after yourself first..

Ray! Get it out of your system! Let it all out! Don't bottle it up! We love and appreciate you just as you are. Nurses have a very important and difficult job (profession). Whenever I've been in hospital I've been given excellent care and attention, bot in our public and private hospitals. Unfortunately, none of them have treated me like the patients in these photos!!!!!!!

HUGS,

Patrick

How right you are and how well I know. My partner's sister ia an LPN and my partner will be graduating as a nurse in December. He has already gotten "his feet wet" and comes home with all kinds of concerns.
But, I must say...if it wasn't for dedicated people such as him, his sister and you...where would our healthcare be?
thanks for all you do and for your blog.

Ray, you can vent any time you want as far as I'm concerned. I come from a family with 4 generations of nurses in it, and I know all too well the stress that career contains. My maternal grandmother was an LPN for 24 years, got her RN and continued with that for another 12 years. She spent the last 3 years of her career, and her life, as the director of the hospice unit. Granny Annie practically ran the hospital in my hometown, and had worked there her entire career. She was such a fixture, and so much beloved, that when she passed away the entire community got together to put a memorial plaque in the hospital lobby, and the hospice was renamed in her honor.
Because of her, I have nothing but love and respect for the nurses I've encountered. I know exactly who does the dirty work in any health care facility. And - tho' I tease, flirt outrageously with, and humorously harass anyone in a nurses uniform - it is they who have my love and loyalty from the moment I lay eyes on them. The Gods bless you.
